Glenoid tubercles

The glenoid tubercles are two small bony eminences (or tubercles) located above and below the glenoid cavity on the scapula. The glenoid tubercles consist of the supra- and the infraglenoid tubercle. The Latin terms supra and infra meaning above and below respectively refers to the tubercles location in relation to the glenoid cavity. The Latin term glenoid meaning socket or cavity refers to the glenoid cavity.

The glenoid tubercles serves as attachment points for the long heads of the biceps brachii and the triceps brachii muscles.

The supraglenoid tubercle is where for the long head of the biceps brachii muscle originates. It is a small, rough projection superior to the glenoid cavity near the base of the coracoid process. The name supraglenoid tubercle refers to its location above the glenoid cavity.

The infraglenoid tubercle is where the long head of the triceps brachii originates. The infraglenoid tubercle is located on the lateral part of the scapula, inferior to (below) the glenoid cavity. The name infraglenoid tubercle refers to its location below the glenoid cavity.

Woodstock Estate

The Woodstock Estate is one kilometre outside the village of Inistioge in County Kilkenny, Ireland, on the west bank of the River Nore, which runs past it.

Woodstock House, now a ruin, was for generations the home to the Tighe family. In 1737, the twenty-six-year-old Sir William Fownes inherited the estate and commissioned an elegant mansion, completed in 1745. He hoped to establish himself with the gentry of the area and to impress the 2nd Viscount Duncannon, soon to become the first Earl of Bessborough, whose daughter Elisabeth he planned to marry. Over the next forty-five years, Woodstock was the background to a series of dramas that led to the deaths of William, Elisabeth and their son-in-law William Tighe.

Many gardens and walks were laid out between 1840 and 1900 by another William Tighe and his wife Lady Louisa Lennox. The gardens contain many exotic plants from Asia and South America, including the Monkey Puzzle tree and the Noble Fir tree which form two of the walks in the gardens, as well as specimens of the Coast Redwood.

In 1921, the property was occupied by the Black and Tans and Auxiliaries, which caused much local resentment, and then by troops of the Free State Army, who were withdrawn from the premises during the Irish Civil War, on 1 July 1922. The house, left unguarded, was burnt down the next day, and remains a derelict empty shell, overgrown with vegetation. The grounds are being restored by Kilkenny County Council and are open to the public. In the grounds, near the river, is a shooting lodge called the Red House.

In 1978 the estate hosted the Irish Jamboree, marking seventy years of Scouting in Ireland. The celebrations were attended by almost 10,000 Scouts from around the world and were opened by President Patrick Hillery.

Skishing

Skishing is a variant on saltwater shorefishing that involves wearing a buoyant wetsuit and swimming out from shore with flippers to fish with rod and reel (typically a surfcasting rod), often using live eels. It is practiced as a means of getting further out to sea in order to increase the chances of catching a fish and can be dangerous. The term skishing is a portmanteau of water-skiing and fishing because when hooked the stripers pull the angler through the water. Skishing has been described as extreme surfcasting.

One enthusiast of skishing believes that „hard core“ surf casters aren’t fond of the activity and consider it cheating.

Skishing was the subject of an article in Forbes magazine. The activity was invented by Aaron Spink, a cabinet maker from Sag Harbor, New York. Spink, has explained that the activity is similar of skiing because „if you hook a fish over thirty pounds, it will generally take you for a ride“.

A description of skishing on Stripercoast Surfcasters web forum as told by Jacob Freeman.

“ It really has to be experienced to be understood, but it’s definitely not for everyone. I would hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is not at least a little crazy. But for me, skishing is to surfcasting, as a hurricane is to a windy day.

To be immersed in the element that holds your quarry, bass sometimes swimming so close to you that you can kick them, feeling the raw power of a big bass pull you around, wrestling one on one with a big fish in their element is unreal. They don’t give up when they’re still in the water, and you can’t lift a big bass out of the water when you’re swimming, so it can become a friggen wrestling match until you get your hook out if the fish is still green. I always crush the barbs of my hooks for an easier release anyway, so sometimes you can just give them some slack and they’ll release themselves if it’s just a lip hook. With an 11′ rod, you really have a lot more leverage than most would think, and with some practice you can horse a fish in (or pull yourself closer to it) rather quickly.

Skishing also provides the surfcaster with access to many very fishy areas that are not accessible from shore or frequented by boats due to the hazardous rocks and reefs. How many times have you been standing on a rock or on the beach and the fish are busting beyond your casting range? That’s frustrating. Skishing lets you get out to where they are.“

SKISHING description by Aaron Spink – Sag Harbor, N.Y.: „It was an extraordinary feeling for me to be floating weightless in this dynamic sea, and I felt as thought I had shed every pound of excess baggage as I rode the tide . . . Fighting a substantial fish while swimming is a unique experience. A balance must be achieved between the hunter and the prey. Any variation to this equilibrium causes a loss of control as the fish pulls. I was kicking hard to keep myself upright, fighting the fish while using my whole body as leverage. . . A swarm of splashing bodies soon surrounded me.“

List of casinos in Maryland

Governor Martin O’Malley has stated that he will look to expand Maryland’s array of gambling in the 2012 legislative session. On February 7, 2012, Senator Douglas JJ Peters introduced legislation in the Maryland State Senate that would legalize an additional casino in Prince George’s County. His legislation would legalize a certain number of slot machines and table games in Prince George’s as well as table games for the other two open and three yet-to-open casinos in Maryland. The legislation would set aside 2.5% of the Prince George’s County casino revenue for an economic development fund and an additional 2.5% of revenue to fund the construction of a new hospital in the County. Such legislation must be approved by the House of Delegates, Senate, Governor, state-wide voter referendum, and county-wide voter referendum. At the time, there was speculation that a casino license in Prince George’s County would be awarded to a company that plans to build it at either National Harbor or Rosecroft Raceway. While this proposal failed during the regular 2012 legislative session, Governor O’Malley championed a special session in July of that year to address the issue of gambling expansion, which passed in the Maryland legislature. The casino legislation required it to pass a Maryland referendum in November. On November 6, 2012, the casino referendum passed, allowing table games at the existing authorized casinos and allowing a sixth casino to be built in Prince George’s County. On December 20, 2013, the Prince George’s County casino license was awarded to MGM Resorts International for a casino resort to open in late 2016 at National Harbor.

Clyde M. Reed

Clyde Martin Reed (* 9.
